January 18, 2010: In Times of Trouble, Turn to the Mother of Jesus
There is no love like a mother’s love and there is no more perfect love of a mother for her children, than the love of Mary for the adopted sons and daughters of her Son Jesus. In perfect prayer and language to her Son, she proclaims Kyrie eleison!–Lord have mercy!
She advocates and intercedes for us before the Godhead, just as beautifully as our own mothers would appeal to our fathers in our behalf. And there is no greater love for God towards any human creature more than the love He placed in His beloved creation of the virginal mother of Christ, His Son. She is daughter of God the Father, Spouse of the Holy Spirit and Mother of Jesus…..AWESOME! No other earthly creature holds a candle to this and that is why she is so beloved by us! She supported in her arms Him who supports the earth and she embraced God!
It is in times of trouble that we seek the heart of Mary which is easily moved to mercy for us.
Just this past Sunday, our Gospel reading was of the wedding at Cana, John, Chapter 2. Mary and Jesus were both in attendance at the wedding feast when it came to Mary’s attention that the wine was running low. So Mary turns to Jesus and says, “ Fili, vinum non habent—They have no wine.” Jesus tends to dissent somewhat, when He replies to her, “What wouldst thou have me do, woman? My hour has not yet come.” Yet Mary, being the good Jewish mother and knowing her Son’s love, implores the house help to “Do whatever He tells you.” Jesus was moved to clemency by His mother and took six stone jars filled with water and transformed them into the most delicious wine of the day.
Jesus knows the heart of Mary, a heart so pure, so holy, created by the Father, could never act against Him, and He loves her heart so much! She advocates unceasingly for the clemency of humankind and Jesus is always moved by her intercessions.
So pray with confidence to Jesus’ mother, Mary Most Holy!
“Oh clement O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, pray for us O Holy Mother of God that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.”
And rest assured that the Mother of Jesus will hear your prayers and supplicate God the Father for your needs.
We are all, everything and everywhere, the family of God!
