Saturn at it’s Best

This week and the week after will be the best views of Saturn all year. Two hours after sunset, look to the Eastern sky and Saturn will be the brightest object there. The 75,000 mile wide ringed-planet will be at its closest to the Earth for 2010, which is 791 million miles away. For best viewing with a telescope, amateur astronomers know to plan to focus in on the planet around midnight, when less blurring occurs from the Earth’s atmosphere.
