November 9, 2009: Fallen Angels Fly

ron7

It’s interesting how songs take on a life of their own.. One of my favorite lines to ever come from one of the songs Beloved gives me is the “You won’t need those boots no more”. It makes me cry when I hear it. I have read before that a Marines rifle and his boots are the two most important things in his life. As the lyrics were coming to me, the idea of not needing those boots no more brought the reality of what a man must be facing out there in the heat of Battle. The thought of a fellow brother in battle saying this breaks my heart. But the other thing i realized is that this is true for all of us in this spiritual battle we tumble through daily. Our battle is not against flesh and blood. None of us will need our boots one day.

I also felt this odd , “Fallen Angels Fly”, a third of heaven fell, but then I heard Mary whisper, this will make many curious as to what the song is about just by the title.. allowing us to tell the story of God’s horrible mercy in the desert of Iraq. We must not be afraid to confuse people a little in order to give them clarity. Beloved does it all the time.

The strength if this poem and melody to me is the love one Marine has for another.. Caring so deeply for one another, “Brothers to the end”, ron2“through our tears in the desert we will lift you up and out of here..” it is an amazing thing what these young men are going through, walking on the brink of immortality moment by moment builds some kind of bond most of us never understand. But this is the spiritual pathos of the song, we are all walking this line, we are all in a battle much more intense than any earthly battle, we are all in our Beloved’s heart. He will never leave us alone to die in the desert, He will lift us up and out of here.. His Body and Blood is dear to us.. This line in the song is not just about the grunts body and blood, it is truly a reminder of the Eucharist. That grunts body and blood in your book very often has His Body and Blood mixed with the Grunts body and blood… Jesus’ blood once again in the desert sand!!!!!!!!!! THIS BLOWS MY MIND!

You know you can use any of my songs from any thing I have done.. We can do quieter versions, use them as instrumentals, etc..Beloved gave me all of these songs, use them however you see fit.. I am so thankful to be a part of something that so wants to tell the story so creatively and artistically.

Glory to our Beloved!

Beloved Keith,

First I will say wow!

When I listened, I both hated and loved the song…because it brought me to where I resist and yet desire.

Instead of saying “Brothers to the end” I would add sisters, or simply say, “Beloved through eternity.”

In the book I shared how we began to call them simply Angels, for a fallen angel is Satin. And yet, there is something erie about fallen angels fly. And then we are more than angels….we are beloved.

The line about not needing boots is quite effective. I believe you are trying to say…we don’t need boots or weapons or lust or rank or ….

Transforming the battle field into Holy Ground…Intense…

Finally, I LOVE your music on the albums you sent me. In some ways, I think you wrote wonderful songs for the movie already. Maybe a few adjustments…and voila! What you do on SOUL and BELOVED is you mix the moods. For just hearing the music a couple of weeks, they are implanted there. Soul is a place….angels hover…..Good or bad, they all run for cover…. Yes! Yes! In the heat of battle, we run for cover….

I imagine me singing in my mind…Is it Me…with all the ups and downs and possible betrayal.

Be Not Afraid is the whisper of Jesus in my ear as I sat before the tabernacle,… trying to avoid going to Iraq…and also in Camp Pendleton preparing…and on the airplane over…

The devil don’t want me to write, perform or direct this movie….I am sure this is true. Your insight is magnificent.

The Wheel of Fortune….

The key to the song about THE Tear in the Desert…to Edward…is my needing to love as my heart breaks….And you yourself a sword will pierce, so that the thoughts of many may be revealed.

Another Dark Night and Beloved….as I turn into the cement wall and hear My Beloved whisper to me as I die to another horrific day….

My rosary traveled everywhere and it was in my cammies, …

Falling back in the humvee after smelling the Potato Factory is a devastating song that melts into HOLY, Holy, Holy

Sorry for the rambling, it is late…and I really love your pusle, your soul, and your love.

Love, joy, peace,
