Blessings and love to all of you stewards of God’s Creation! Last year I spent a glorious week in Yoro, Honduras on a Medical Mission emerging from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville. We were stewards of our love, joy, peace, time, talent and treasures (education, money, creativity, etc.). We are setting off next month again. I would like to share with you a few journal entries from last year.

Jesus, most beloved friend and companion

Thank you, – Gracias por este oportunidad

for this opportunity

to be with you in this country filled with those who love you

You are sending us on a mission of love

Our bags were packed with vital medicines and supplies (nor more than 140 lbs)

But our hearts are filled to overflowing capacity

To bring your gifts of love, joy, peace and generosity

Bless us Lord, God of Heaven and Earth

to answer the call of the leper

as your voice, your touch, your compassion

Give us the capacity to reach out in your name to touch and heal

And when we are finished on the 21^st of February

May we cry out:

“Lord you can heal us and make us clean if you will it!”

And may we hear your voice in our hearts, mind, and soul,

“I do will it! Be made clean!”

My struggle…watching with a flashlight

The poor get their rotten teeth extracted

Yearning to comfort in the midst of pain,

Straining to hold the light – focused on the rot

And glancing to the trusting eyes of the poor

A privilege and an honor

Working side by side with the doctors and dentists

Not only holding the Light…

Crying out to my Father to rescue His children…and my sisters and brothers

O Lord, Beloved God

You promised to hear the cry of the poor!!!

You can heal them!!!

You will heal them!!!

Using us insignificant, broken and wounded instruments of peace

And along the way you will heal my

longing, dying struggling soul

Gracias A Dios! Thank you God!

So this week I make a plea and a cry to all of you Stewards of Creation to send your prayers for our upcoming Mission to Honduras from February 20- 28, 2010. We are going with complete trust in Our God and the Mother of Jesus. God will provide. Won’t you be an instrument of God’s love, joy and peace?

The following is from the coordinator of our Mission Trips.

Hola, Dear Past and Perspective Donor,

Greetings in the Name of Jesus on this beautiful, blessed Sunday!

Last year at this time, our medical mission asked for your help with
prayers and donations, so we could buy much needed medicines
for our annual medical mission to Yoro, Honduras. You responded
and we raised over $4,000. The poor people who benefit from your
generosity are excited about our return medical mission in February,
2010. That $4,000+ was donated in less than 3 weeks!
Praise God!!!

This year, we are in need of funds to cover over $8,000 worth of
medicines to be used to improve the health of poor families in the
Yoro, Honduras area. Will you, once again, step forward and make
a donation to this worthy cause? If you weren’t able to help us with
finances last year, would you consider helping us now? If you sent
a gift last year, please don’t stop now! If everyone receiving this
request for donations sends $25. or $50. or $100. or more, we will
have a successful medical mission and be able to help more of the
poor people living in the second poorest country in North America!

I know times are hard for many of us and I wouldn’t ask you for a
donation, if the need in the small villages around Yoro wasn’t so
great! This past year, that area was again devastated by heavy rains
that lasted many weeks. Many lost their small huts to the flooding.
The poor people are in greater need of basic health care this year
than ever before and they need your help now!

You can help those people by making out a check for any amount to:
Friends of the Missions, Inc. (It is a 501(c)(3) Not For Profit Group.)
This is a tax deductible donation. “Friends” helps missionaries in
their world-wide outreach of help to underdeveloped, poor countries.
You will receive a thank you letter that states the amount of your gift.
You or someone you select will also be remembered in a Mass of
Thanksgiving for your gift to help improve the health needs of these
poor brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus!

30+ volunteer medical people and helpers are paying their own way
(about $1,100. each) to go to Honduras and help about 2,000 poor
people. These poor people will receive an exam and consultation
and prescriptions to meet their health needs, all free of charge. Each
volunteer pays for their own rooms, ground transportation, airfare
and food, so there isn’t much money left over for medicines for the
people of the Yoro area. We need your help!

Through your generosity now, we can have enough needed medicines
to serve the needs of these very poor people. Our medical team is
counting on people like you to help, but more importantly, the poor
people are counting on you to help! Please write a check today and
mail it soon. Whatever you give will be well used and the poor people
will be so grateful for your kindness!

Our med mission departs on February 19th and returns on March 1st. Even
as I write this email, the invoices for medicines already purchased are
arriving daily. Please help us to help our poor brothers and sisters in
Christ Jesus, as we serve the poor mountain villagers of Yoro, Honduras!

Please keep all of us and the poor people of Yoro in your prayers and
your hearts, so that we will be safe and God’s poor people will receive
the medical help they deserve. I am on this upcoming medical mission
to Yoro and I will take your prayers and gifts to the poor people in the
Name of Jesus and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
