Rescue Us: Pet Shelters Hit Hard by Recession (Paw Print Post–A Community for Dog, Cat and Pet Owners)
For Those Who Cannot Speak for Themselves
There comes before us at any given time, a moment when we can decide to be part of a good thing, or to let it pass us by. This is one of those moments!
If you haven’t had the chance to visit THE SHELTER PET PROJECT tab on our website, it is really a great ad. This national campaign that raises awareness to the plight of so many wonderful animal companions that await adoption at your local animal shelters is admirable!
Every year, 6-8 million cats and dogs end up in one of the 4,000-6,000 animal shelters in the United States. Of those, 3-4 million are euthanized.*
Consider also that American households that own at least one dog, total 74.8 million, of which, only 10% were adopted from animal shelters. **
THE SHELTER PET PROJECT raises awareness to the fact that new shelter animals are more than likely a family pet that has been left behind because of the poor economic times. Home foreclosures, divorces and lack of income all contribute to dogs and cats that have been loved by their human companions being given up, in the hopes that other families in better situations can give them a loving home again.
Pure breeds, mixes, young and old are all there, all in need of someone to love them once again.
If you are thinking about a new family member, a cat or dog, be part of a good thing and seek your animal companion at your local animal shelter and start by visiting THE SHELTER PET PROJECT.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…” Proverbs 31:8
