September 6, 2010: Foods Full of Fall Flavor
The Autumn Season brings with it some of the most delicious foods of the year! The harvest! No matter where you live across the United States, now is the time to get out over the weekend, in the cooler morning air and visit your favorite farmers market for the newly arriving fall veggies and fruits.
This month starts the falling of the colorful leaves from the trees, as the nights began to get cooler and dryer. Some of the best autumn foods arriving at the market will be the many root vegetables which include carrots and potatoes in their abundant diversities and onions and garlic. The above-ground harvest of squash and pumpkins will bring the colors of the fall. The seasonal fruits of apples, pears and cranberries round out the harvest.
So, get out and enjoy the harvest, the falling of the leaves, the colors that make this time of year so special in creation and on our tables!
