September 23, 2015: Today, God Is Blessing America

~by Susi Pittman

The visit of Pope Francis to the United States is a holy event. The Vicar of Christ of the One, Holy & Apostolic Church is upon American soil and it brings with it a blessing!

But the wisdom that is from above is first of all chaste, then peaceable, moderate, docile, in harmony with good things, full of mercy and good fruits, without judging; without dissimulation. The fruit of justice is sown in peace by those who make peace.

~James 3:17-18

What a marvelous time for American Catholics! What a monumental event not only to be written into American history, but into the hearts of the faithful here. The Holy Father not only canonizes Junipero Serra here at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, the FIRST time EVER a saint has been canonized on American soil, but he also addresses for the FIRST time EVER by a pope, a joint meeting of the United States Congress.

Viva Papa!

The Holy Father is the 266th pope since Peter was proclaimed the foundation upon which CHRIST would build His Church. (Matthew16:13-20) The Roman Catholic Church has continued to bear the fruit of that foundation from over 2,000 years ago to the present with over 1.2 billion parishioners worldwide, of which almost 70 million (22%) reside in the United States. Ye shall know them by their fruits. NO other Christian faith comes close in numbers. The Roman Catholic faith has been blessed and continues to grow in “good fruit.”

I have lived my life now remembering six popes: Pope Paul VI was pontiff when I converted to the Roman Catholic Church in 1966; then it was Pope Saint John XXIII, which I remember as the “Kennedy” pope because of the culture of the time; then came Pope John Paul I whom I associate with my marriage to my soul mate Greg; then my beloved John Paul II who influenced 27 years of my adult life; Pope Benedict was an amazing force in the Vatican and I adored him; and then we come to Pope Francis, the peoples pope…what love he has!

ALL of these great pontiffs had one thing in common…they were and are men of peace.

Which brings me back to the scripture at the top of this article.

Pope Francis embodies exactly what the two scriptural verses proclaim.

He is a spiritual blessing and holy presence in a world gone mad with materialism, relativism, humanism, and egocentrism. The spiritual air about him brings peace to those he comes in contact with. His personal holiness is palpable. And when he speaks, wisdom touches the ears and hearts of those who love the Lord.

We as a country in general and Roman Catholics in particular are being blessed by God with the Holy Father’s presence among us for but a short moment in time.

I give thanks to God the Father through Christ the Son for being alive today!

May God Bless America beyond the Holy Fathers stay and allow the words of wisdom that His Holiness shared with us to rest upon our consciences.
