January 4, 2017: 800 YEARS

~by Susi Pittman

If someone gave YOU just one sentence to remember, to keep intact, remembered and perfectly preserved for 800 years (considering that you were allowed to live 800 years and you dealt with day to day living, aging and memory flaws)…could you do it?

I think not.

That is why the Holy Bible is so incredible! The 73 books were written over 1,000+ years and there is no better time to connect the dots between Old Testament & New Testament than at the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord.

The Church this week is celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. How wondrous and mystical was it that God’s power touched the heavens with a divine light to bring the Magi to the feet of the new Infant King.

But you, Bethlehem-Ephratha too small to be among the clans of Juda, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel; whose origin is from of old, from ancient times…for his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace.

~ Michea (Micah) 5:1,3-4, a contemporary of the prophet Isaiah ~

Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel: which is interpreted, God with us.

~Isaiah 7:14, a prophet in the 8th Century (800 years) before the Birth of Chirst. ~

Rise up in splendor! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, the darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the Lord shines, and over you appears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance…for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Madian (Midian) and Epha (Ephah); all from Saba (Sheba) shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the Lord

~ Isaiah 60:1-2,5-6, ~

Think about it, these were the prophetic words, sacred scripture written 800 YEARS before Jesus’ birth.

And then think how these mighty words, protected and preserved by the Holy Spirit traversed those 800+ years to be fulfilled in the New Testament and thus affirmed by the Apostles and Disciples.

And Joseph also went from Galilee out of the town of Nazareth into Judea (Juda) to the town of David, which is Bethlehem…together with his espoused wife Mary. And she brought forth her firstborn son…And the angel said to them…for today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord.

~ St. Luke 2:4-5,7,10 ~

Behold, Magi came from the East to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East and have come to worship him.”

~ St. Matthew 2:2

Our readings during the Christmas season Masses remind us and take us back to the prophets of the Old Testament, 800 years before the Birth of Jesus, who prepare the world for the Messiah who will come. We are propelled through time to the fulfillment of these prophecies in the New Testament.

Now, in these modern times, when you think of the birth of Christ, it is easy to fancy the thought away to a single day celebration without thought to the centuries involved in getting us to this day of celebration above all others.

Many Catholics have fallen into a very Protestant habit of forgetting that the Birth of Christ is a celebration that was prophesized 2,800 years ago from the present. The traditions of the Church insure that today, we continue to celebrate the Christmas season as was done as early as the third century A.D. Christmas BEGINS with the Birth of Jesus and is celebrated from December 25th until the Feast Day of the Baptism of the Lord in February.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The United States of America is only 239 years in existence…AND these days we are lucky if any truth gets perpetuated through the the web of disinformation spinmeisters and a legion of evolutionist intellectuals. Even now, books are being changed, documents are being “re-quoted” with pure theoretical science and a litany of humanist moral squalor.

I would be very afraid to be living my life in this country without my Faith. It indeed is my refuge and light, ever guided by God who promised:

Then Jesus answered…and I say to thee, thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

~ St Matthew 16:17-18 ~

How wonderful that the Roman Catholic Church preserves and perpetuates the Sacred Scriptures, the Inspired Word of God, and continues to dominant the world as the largest Christian denomination (1.2 billion members) keeping the Lord Jesus ever present to all!

Indeed, by their fruits you shall know them. No matter the battles that may besiege within or without, God will protect His Holy Church from ever being destroyed from the face of the planet. Be that another 800 years or 8,000 years.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endures FOREVER.

~Psalm 118:1

HAPPY NEW YEAR IN JESUS CHRIST OUR INFANT KING
