December 27, 2010: Be Stewards of Creation
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. For in him were created all things in the heavens and on the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether Thrones, or Dominations, or Principalities, or Powers, All things have been created through and unto him, and he is before all creatures, and in him all things hold together. For it pleased God the Father that in him all his fullness should dwell, and that through him he should reconcile to himself all things, whether on the earth or in the heavens, making peace through the blood of his cross.
Colossians 2: 15-17, 19-20
That very New Testament scripture is the reason for this web site. That very scripture helped to launch my book, Animals in Heaven? Catholics Want to Know! And that scripture contains the essence of what the birth of Jesus means to ALL CREATION and ITS CREATURES!!!!!
It echoes the Old Testament scripture:
What now is has already been; what is to be, already is; and God restores what would otherwise be displaced. Ecclesiastes 3:15
The footnote in the Douay Rheims Bible to this verse states:
God restores: the meaning is probably that God allows no part of His creation to drop out of existence.
Jesus’ birth was a birth for ALL of creation.
No one could know this truth more than the three wise men who journeyed, following the star foretold in the prophecies of old. The wise men approached the Christ Child with a certain reverence and understanding that was given them by God. I like to dwell upon that moment when their eyes beheld Jesus. Can you imagine the depth of love and knowledge the eyes of Jesus contained as He looked into the very souls of each wise man? Could they not have been completely reborn, renewed and redirected in their life’s journey? Did they not gaze upon the beauty of Mary and not wonder at the Divine Hand as it delivered the Christ Child into the world, transcending the womb of the Holy Mother? Did they not yearn in secret to have been Saint Joseph, to have been the one to care for and embrace with such chaste love and protection this Holy Child and His Mother?
One thing is for sure…they were given special graces and blessings from God to be present at that very moment before the King of Creation. And I am sure, they were given a unique and deep love of all creation that carried them to the end of their days. Otherwise, why else would God have orchestrated the gifts from the earth that they brought to His Son?
“Set your star” for the new years to be a better steward of your surroundings and the creatures that inhabit it here on earth. And make a heart-felt offering this Sunday to Jesus through the intercession of the three wise men.
They were the first stewards who today and always will lead us to the JOY of knowing and serving Our King, Jesus!
