December 12, 2011: The Catholic Writers Guild—By their fruits you shall know them

Jacksonville Catholic Writers Guild (Currently forming a Charter)

It was just this past August that I took a trip to Philadelphia to participate in the 3rd Annual Catholic Writers Guild Conference. I arrived there on a tip from my good friend and fellow parishioner, Jerry Webster. Jerry is a successful Catholic author, having produced two award winning fiction novels, Insight and Soul Reader . Jerry told me that if I was serious about my Catholic writing, I needed to get involved with this rising new group.

It was the best thing I could have ever done.

Meeting with successful men and women Catholic authors, writers and personalities was a marvelous experience. I felt as though I had come home! It is certainly an organization that has been needed for a long time and is positioned to grow aggressively over the next few years.

Perhaps the greatest “fruit” of connecting with the Catholic Writers Guild is that Jerry and I returned home excited to start a local Chapter here in Jacksonville, Florida.

Our first “exploratory” meeting in October brought 16 interested area Catholic writers. Our last meeting in December had another three new writers to join us!

God is good!

Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has encouraged the faithful to come forward and serve Jesus in the new evangelization. Both Jerry and I sense that there is an upsurge of inspired and devout Catholics just waiting to either be invited to serve or just need to know where to connect to serve in the Catholic writing arena.

The Catholic Writers Guild has an enormous deposit of knowledge in their Catholic gurus versed in every respectable writing genre, social media, publicity and printed media. It is a place to learn and advance in a field that is just now opening to independent authors and publishers. It also helps to connect writers with writers and writers with all the major Catholic publishers in the country.
