Did you know there is more than one? As a matter of fact, there are many! It does seem so appropriate that the Patron Saint of Animals, Saint Francis of Assisi would be recognized by those who serve the animals in veterinary practices. But, I have to admit that there are more than a few across the United States.

The name Saint Francis evokes compassion, and in almost every case, each site for these various Saint Francis Animal Hospitals includes the word “compassion” or “compassionate” in their mission or on their home pages. One of the hospitals in Colorado Springs actually has St. Francis’ prayers on their site, www.stfrancisvet.com, which I found to be very comforting.

Our dear Saint Francis, I am sure, gives special notice to those in the animal medical fields that utilize his name to inspire their practice and those who work with them.

May you all ever maintain the compassion and loving care that Saint Francis gave to our lesser brethren. And may his name on the shingle over your door, ever bless those who enter in.
