August 20, 2014: Angel to the Rescue

~by Susi Pittman

This past week I once again had a chance to thank my Guardian Angel for a job well-done!

I was just one mile away from arriving at my job at the North Ranger Station at Itchetucknee Springs, when I found myself behind one of the thousands of “tubers” who make their annual summer pilgrimage to this state park to float in a tube down its crystal-clear, 72-degree waters.*

He had four extra large inner tubes tied on the top and rear of his vehicle, all of them flapping wildly in the wind and rain that surrounded us at the moment. I was following at a safe distance because common sense said; this is an accident waiting to happen. I couldn’t have been more right.

As we neared an intersection, he had not slowed at all, but, upon passing the intersection, he slammed on brakes. Even following at a safe distance, the wet roads were unforgiving. I hit my brakes and as the anti-brake-lock system kicked into gear, I found myself sliding forward in what seemed to be slow-motion, heading for the rear of his vehicle.

It was in a split second that I noticed a patch of sand just to my right and I slowly turned the wheel to guide me in that direction, hoping to gain some traction to stop.

All I know is that what followed was a slippage in time. That is my best description. I just remember what seemed to be a smooth passage around the right side of the vehicle. As my mind exited that slip my car was completely in front of the other vehicle, facing perfectly straight like it had never left the road. I didn’t remember that part. It was like nothing had happened…but, it did. Everyone was safe.

I looked in my rearview mirror and the man’s face in the other vehicle looked absolutely stunned, his month dropped open. But, I’m sure he saw that my face mirrored back my own astonishment! It was then that I distinctly detected a sweet, soft fragrance in the car. I knew I had a heavenly co-pilot who had assisted me.

I gave a nod to the man in the car behind me and continued on to work.

I contemplated how it seems so incredible that God would give to each of us a glorious Prince of Heaven to guard and guide us at every moment all the days of our lives. Someone…and our angels are a “someone who devotes his unceasing vigilance to us for the glory of God and His Kingdom. A Holy Angel burning with the love of God—full of intense love for us, interceding constantly for us before God’s throne.

So, I say again like I have said so many times before, Thank you David (that is his name) for your heavenly intervention and for keeping me safe from harm.

Every day I say my own special prayer to God in thanksgiving for David. I made it up years ago just for him:

David my angel dear, my guardian who is ever near, with you I need never fear, Lord, God bless my angel dear. Amen.

Thank You God for Guardian Angels!
