Cetus the Whale

Cetus the Whale is a long constellation that rises in the east-southeast on fall evenings. As one of the largest constellations, it can be found lying below Pisces the Fish in the sky and it contains a wonderful star called MIRA. MIRA is called the “Wonderful Star.” Mira grows brighter, then fainter, then brighter again in regular, predictable cycles of approximately 332 days.

Cetus, known by the ancient Greeks as the whale that was about to attack Andromeda when Perseus destroyed it, Cetus was later thought to represent the whale that consumed Jonah.
