August 30, 2010: PEGASUS the Flying Horse

In the night sky resides the constellation Pegasus. It is a large pattern of stars marked by a great square — four bright stars that form the body of the winged horse. The constellation is home to several galaxies and a bright globular cluster, globular clusters are home to some of the oldest stars and objects in the universe. The brightest star in the constellation Pegasus is called Markab, which means “the saddle.” It’s at the southwestern corner of the Great Square.
