September 12, 2011: America, In God We Trust

~ by Mary Galvano

In honor of Labor Day, and with the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I would like to dedicate a song that I wrote and that I hold dear to my heart called ‘America, In God We Trust.’ What started out as a simple love song to America just a few months before, ended up being a song of comfort for the September 11th tragedies. God’s timing is perfect as it was put to good use.

Not long after the 9/11 attacks, I had the honor to sing this song at the memorial site of Flight 93 in Shankesville, PA in memory of the victims and some of their family members. It was a moving visit and one I will always remember. When I arrived at the site and got out of the car, the curator said, “Take a moment.” Apparently she knew what I was going to feel, and I got all choked up. She put her arm round me and asked if I was going to be okay. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to sing, but the moment I met some of the victims’ families, that gave me a little bit of peace.

The CD recording is now placed in the Archives of the Flight 93 National Memorial by the United States Department of the Interior.
