May 8, 2013: If We Could Only Imagine

~ by Mary Galvano

Can you imagine being one of the apostles witnessing Jesus ascending into heaven? This had to be the most awesome sight to see. Forty days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Act of the Apostles records Jesus’ ascension into heaven, of God-Man returning to the Father. This paschal mystery along with the resurrection was proof that Jesus was and is the Messiah. It was also the “final blow” against Satan; the Lion’s conquering of the dragon.

With this witness of our Lord how could the apostles be anything but devoted followers? They saw humanity entering God’s heavenly domain! Proving that Jesus will come again and giving us all hope that one day we will live with him forever. Jesus Christ entered the sanctuary of heaven once and for all ensuring the permanent outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Wow!!

Indeed, something this miraculous can be hard to imagine. If only we had the opportunity to witness this event with the apostles. How would our lives change? All we can do for now is believe. Believe in the Truth. If Jesus said so then it is so. Amen! Our imaginations can bring us to see what we cannot. We must imagine as a child can imagine.

When we can see Jesus in all His glory nothing on Earth will be as important. All my life I dreamed of becoming a world famous professional golfer. I worked hard to be the best, and even though I did very well in the sport I found more fulfillment in singing and talking about God to people I met throughout my times playing professionally. Time and time again without any doing of my own I found myself being asked to sing the Ave Maria, The Lord’s Prayer or other sacred pieces. I learned that God is more important than golf. Because of the Ascension of the Lord the Holy Spirit was being poured out on me for a greater purpose. Although, we can and should use the arenas God has put us in to convert others. My growing up playing both junior and professional golf did serve a purpose, and still does.

There are many stories similar to mine. And it is only through the Holy Spirit that we learn God is more important than what we might think is important on Earth. Look up to the heavens and see Jesus ascending to the Father’s glorious kingdom and see Him coming again. If we could only imagine this nothing on Earth would matter except the love that we have for each other; and there would be peace in the world.
