March 26, 2012: Kindness is Contagious

~ by Mary Galvano

My life as expectant mother has been touched recently by extraordinary acts of kindness. Two examples are through the overwhelming, unselfish help of a neighbors. One calls me every day to see if I need anything. The other is the general manager at Publix, who actually delivered fish to my house when the bagger failed to place it in my grocery bag, as I wasn’t up to driving back to the store.

How do I repay these people? When I asked my neighbor that question she simply asked that I show kindness to someone else. What comes around goes around. Kindness is like wildfire. It is contagious!

Lent is a time to show extra acts of kindness. As we read Psalm 145:8-9 during Lent we reflected on the Lord’s generosity, mercy and kindness towards us. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness, as the Psalm goes. The Lord’s example is how we should be towards others. The Lord has given us so much to be thankful for. He gives us the air that we breathe, all living creatures, family and friends, but most importantly He has given us eternal life.

Why? He has given us all these things?… because He loves us unconditionally.

We don’t have many days left in the Lenten season. With the time that we do have left, let us make these last days really count by going over the top in doing something kind for someone, maybe something unexpected, which is always the most fun. What you do for others will not be forgotten. God is always watching. When you have it in your heart to truly do something kind for someone else, beware, it will come back to you.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole world caught on to this?
