July 31, 2013: Be Still

~ by Mary Galvano

Rush, rush, rush, that is the way of life. In the process of trying to get as much done as possible in the shortest amount of time we end up putting even more on our to do list making our lives even more stressful and filling our minds with the worries of the world. We get so wrapped up in our own agendas that we forget to take time to be with the ones we care about. Time goes by so quickly as in the blink of an eye. We must savor every moment before time runs out. It is not our job to worry about life, but to trust in God.

“Come and see the works of the Lord who has done fearsome deeds on earth. Who stops wars to the ends of the earth, breaks the bow, splinters the spear, and burns the fields with fire. Be still and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, exalted on earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob.” Psalm 46:9-12

This song of confidence is a reminder of how powerful God is. He can make things right in each one of our lives and with the whole world. However, for this to happen God wants us to do our part. That is, we need to put love first. Instead of worrying and rushing about day-to-day life, take time to love. We are not made to live isolated lives. Did you know that studies have proven that one of the number one secrets to staying young is spending time with the ones that we care about? God wants that time, too. He made us to be with Him eternally.

Slow down, be still and trust God. Put down your to-do list, take a deep breath and sit down with a cup of coffee or tea and spend time with a friend. And if there is no one around to visit with, then visit with your guardian angel or your loved ones who have gone before you. How about playing a fun game with your dog or cat? Are the things keeping you too busy really more important than time with others? If so then ask God to help you with your priorities. He will. Life is short enough without rushing through it. Peace!
