January 24, 2011: Life is Precious

~ by Mary Galvano

As the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade is upon us, I think of how by the grace of God I was spared during that time. Being born in 1973, the first year of the Supreme Court decision, it is a miracle for any baby to be born during and beyond that time.

I was supposed to be born on July 4th and, being over a month late, the doctor told Mom that I would have problems and that she should abort me. I was supposed to have many physical problems. But my mother did not obey the doctor, rather God. God, who created all of us, can create a person any way He wants. And so, by the grace of God, I was born and today I am a professional athlete and performing artist. It is eerie to think what could have happened if I had not a mother of faith.

Being, also, the youngest of six children is a miracle. A lot of women today don’t want to have many children and want to plan their pregnancies. What if my mother stopped at five children? Just to think of the family I could have missed growing up in or the wonderful husband I would have never known makes me realize how wonderful God truly is. He gave me life. He gave all of us life. Life is so precious. Every human being and creation of God deserves the respect of life.

I would like to share with you the words of the respect life song I wrote. It is a song of answers to the many questions we receive as Catholic stewards of creation, of life. I hope the words help.

Precious Gift, Little Miracle

Words and Music by Mary Galvano

Refrain: Go to sleep little child in world not meant for you
You did nothing wrong and yet you were refused
Can’t you see the heavens are waiting for your return?
Precious gift, little miracle; a life not of this world
.
A little small in our eyes to ever feel a thing
Your spirit still belongs to God and that’s worth everything
You must pay now for a crime that you did not do
Precious gift, little miracle; a life not of this world
.
Someday will see our maker and all the choices we have made
And even when He forgives us, what do you think He’ll say?
I believe the greatest gifts can come from our mistakes and to give your life for another is the greatest love we can make (refrain)

.
