January 16, 2012: Never Look Back

~ by Mary Galvano

A year has passed and a new year has begun. An empty canvas is waiting to be painted with our own design, and although we may have many great, or not so great, memories behind us, we must not dwell on the past. Never look back. We must continue to move forward.

I know there are times I wish things would stay the same, that I could continue living just as I am. This is only normal when you truly love where you are and are grateful for the life God has given you. But sometimes, God moves us away from the comforts of our surroundings to something new because He only wants us to grow. He gets us out of our contentment to further our spirituality. If we don’t move forward we will never grow.

Where is our true home anyway? It is not here. It is with God in heaven. The disciples made that clear when the left all which they were familiar, home, family and jobs to follow a man that had just met. They knew in their hearts this was the only way to the kingdom of heaven.

So, stop being attached to things of this Earth and follow Jesus. Live in the moment and thank God for each new day. Go forward with excitement to your new adventurous journey, wherever God leads you.

The animals can teach us much about this. They are great examples of living in the moment. They go with the flow and take things as they come. That is why they are able to forgive so easily when we might hurt them. They forget the past and continue to love us unconditionally. Boy, if only humans could be this pure of nature. They are certainly living the will of God.

This year make a special effort to move forward in blind faith to where God wants to lead you. Never looking back.

Keep the happy memories if you want and learn from your past, but move forward.

God won’t let you down if you follow Him and do what He says. Leaving behind the past or the comfortable place where you are may be painful, God understands the heart better than we do. But, He only wants you to be closer to Him. Through whatever tribulations that you may be going through He will take care of you because He loves you. He wants you to get to your final destiny with flying colors, which is heaven. This is our ultimate goal.

Learn from the animals and live in the present just as they do. Love every minute God gives you and thank Him for each new day. And don’t be afraid to jump in with both feet to your new beginning.

“The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it is called the present.”
