February 13, 2013: I Love a Lonely Day

~ by Mary Galvano

I love a lonely day, it makes me think of you,“ as the Amy Grant song goes. Loneliness is a necessity of life. It is not one we may always enjoy, but it does help bring us closer to God if we allow it.

Jesus was alone in the desert for 40 days, tempted by every possible temptation. He needed this time to rise against evil and be close to our Father in heaven. We, too, need time to be alone with God and sometimes it is not by our own means that we are. When this happens feelings of loneliness can set in. God allows this because He wants us to spend more time with Him, depending only on Him.

Lent is upon us and it is the perfect time to spend some alone time with God. Let this alone time transform you for the better. Offer any uneasiness, discomfort, or complaint you may be having up to God for someone or something. Your self-offerings can contribute to positive changes in the world.

Whatever God lets come your way accept it with great joy because you are being molded for the Kingdom of Heaven. How exciting!

This is easier said than done, though. Call on your guardian angels for help. They can get you through any difficulties and are always standing by your side assisting you.

And when you are lonely, remember those who are also lonely. Say a prayer for them and reach out to them. By doing so, your loneliness will disappear.

Then put on a good song…

and have a hot cup of tea and thank God for the all that He has given you.

May God bless you all!
