December 27, 2010: A La Familia

by Mary Galvano

Since this Sunday was focused on the Holy Family I couldn’t help but think of my family and how God has blessed me with so much love and everything else that comes from being a member of a large family, especially at Christmas time! I think most of us can relate to those family gatherings with all the ups and downs that come with them around the holidays.

I come from a big Italian family! We are many, we are loud at times, and even though we love each other very much we can push each other’s buttons at times. Does that sound familiar? As I looked across the kitchen this morning my sister- in- law who was trying to have a conversation had to cover her ears because there was so much noise coming from the living room. I laughed and said, “Just speak louder. You are surrounded by Galvano’s.” And although I try to search for a little quiet amidst the noise, I wouldn’t replace it for the world.

No family is perfect, only God is perfect. Whatever family God has placed you with, whatever people He has put in your lives be grateful and give thanks for it. You are truly blessed. Accept each member of your family for who they are. Each person is there for a reason and each individual personality creates that perfect family that was meant for you.

“The whole is more than the sum of its parts.” ~ Aristotle, Metaphysica

Through the next few days of the Christmas season let us pray for God’s blessing on our family, and all families for that matter, and truly be grateful for being placed with the people God has placed us with. Let us strive to keep the family holy just as Jesus, Joseph, and Mary did, the true Holy Family. They are our examples. May God bless you and your families now and always.

Merry Christmas!
