December 26, 2012: Hodie Christus Natus Est!

~ by Mary Galvano

Hodie Christus natus est (Today Christ is Born) and Gloria in excelsis Deo! It is hard to believe that just a year ago my husband and I were expecting our daughter, Abigail, with the news that we would have difficulties with her. Although, we were troubled we continued to put our trust in God. Nothing is impossible for God and nothing tells this truth better than Christmas. Today we have the best Christmas gift of all, a beautiful baby girl.

God actually sent His only Son to save us not because He needs us but because He loves us that much! Jesus, true God, true Man and true Love, came to give us eternal life.

As we anticipated the arrival of one of the most magnificent holy days of the year, Christmas, we must shout for joy! Christmas is here at last, but it is never far from our hearts throughout the year because Jesus is with all of us always, born to us in a manger in Bethlehem.

God’s plan is perfect. Did you know Bethlehem means House of Bread, and a manger is a box where food is placed for livestock? It is quite fitting and not so coincidental that the Bread of Life should be born in these places. He came down from God, the Father, to give us His Body as bread for everlasting life. His bread is not the kind of bread that is perishable but is forever. Whenever we eat His flesh and drink His blood we are celebrating the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And we are in communion with Him. Amen! Thanks be to God!

Knowing this should help us get through anything. Stop worrying because God is still in control and has a perfect plan. We have only to trust in Him and give thanks for the birth of Jesus. Open your mouth to tell a lost and hurting soul about Jesus’ saving love for him.

Alleluia! Christ our Savior is born. Praise You, Jesus! We give our lives to You. Gloria in excelsis Deo!
