August 27, 2012: Look Up!

~ by Mary Galvano

What a glorious day! This is the day the Lord has made! Taking my morning walk today with my baby and dog, Princess, I was in awe of the general splendor of my surroundings. The air was crisp and lower humidity than usual, and the sky was as blue as cornflowers. There was a peaceful silence around me, as a cool, gentle breeze caressed me. It was perfect golf weather. I looked up and said, “Thank you, God, for this beautiful day.”

Soon, something else happened to catch my eye. It was a lady also pushing a baby stroller. And as the child in the stroller was looking all around at the picture perfect day the lady was slumped over the handlebars with her face buried in her electronic device. Throughout her whole walk I couldn’t help but notice not once did she look up to enjoy what God had placed right in front of her, except to see if a car was coming.

Does this sound familiar? Are we so busy with what the outside world has to offer that we forget to live in the simplicity of the God created world? He puts in front of us all that we need. He paints a picture each day for us, yet we are not satisfied. Most importantly are the people He places in our lives. How about talking to the people in front of you, rather than ignoring them to talk to someone else miles away? Try to look into each person’s eyes and see the face of Jesus.

There is a lot of good that comes from the latest technology. Lives are saved everyday because of them, but like with every good thing we have, we must not abuse it.

One of my favorite memories is when I lived in SW Florida and would go out to Sanibel Island. I would go to my favorite remote area of the island and dance in the sand and sing “How Great Though Art” while looking out into the Gulf of Mexico. It was an intimate time spent with my Maker. We should all take time to be intimate with our true Love.

Today put down the cell phone or electronic device and look up if only for a moment. Don’t miss what is going on around you. Look around at what God has given to you this day and give thanks. He so much wants to spend time with you.

Please, take time to enjoy this video telling the magnificence of God. This is all we need.
