April 9, 2012: O Happy Fault

~ by Mary Galvano

Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven,

exult, let Angel ministers of God exult,

let the trumpet of salvation

sound aloud our mighty King’s triumph!

These are the glorious words that are proclaimed in the Easter Proclamation (Exsultet) at the Easter vigil. They are profound in the reality of how darkness is forever broken by the light of Christ.

Jesus’ suffering and dying is chilling to the bones, and to think all that Christ went through for us could have been avoided if it weren’t for the sin of Adam. Yet, from the sin of Adam we gained an even greater gift. Again we reflect on the Exsultet, “O truly necessary sin of Adam, destroyed completely by the Death of Christ! O happy fault that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer!”

Each one of us at some time or another has been given a cross to carry, and we all have been given a chance to rise again through the resurrection of Christ our Lord. Life is not perfect. We are all responsible for the sins of the world but, through the resurrection of Christ we can get through anything. If there is anything that is weighing you down because you think it is too great to carry, remember, nothing is impossible for Jesus, and He understands completely what you are going through. Offer it up to the Cross. Cling to the Cross! The Cross of Jesus will get you through any trial you may face. It conquered death! No sin is too great to be taken away and with the greatest sins can come the greatest gifts. If it weren’t for our faults we wouldn’t have gained so great a Redeemer. Keep this is mind the next time life is too hard to bear.

In celebrating the miracle of the Easter season, rejoice in the new life God has provided for each of us. The new life that only comes through the power of the Holy Spirit and the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Christ is risen!

Rejoice!

Alleluia!
