February 14, 2011: Stewards of a Mission

~ by Father Ron Camarda

My bags are finally packed for our Medical Mission to Honduras. It is always difficult for me to get what I need to bring to the poor. Jesus sends us out by saying:

Cure the sick!
Raise the dead!
Cleanse lepers!
Drive out demons!
Without cost you have received. Without cost are you to give.

And so we twenty-four doctors, nurses, helpers and priest are in Honduras by the time you read this. I look forward to sharing with you what we received from the poor upon our return. It is definitely much more than we could possibly offer.

The part that challenges me greatly is when Jesus sends us out without a change of clothes. I must confess that I am not there yet. However, my two checked bags are packed with vitamins, soccer balls, Frisbees, Rosaries, prayer cards in Spanish and medical supplies. My carry on for me is crammed with shirts and socks. Many times, I let go of these T-shirts that I love. However, I love more to give them to on of my brothers or sisters in a poor country.

So I better get off to bed so I can catch the plane. My ride to the airport will come by to pick me up at 5 am. Lord have mercy!

Have a splendid week and thank you so much for your prayers. Yes, we bring medical care for the poor, but more important we call the poor our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and children.

Love, joy, peace,

Father Ron Moses +
